A Proper Yorkshire Welcome
It's been a scorcher this week across God's Own Country, with temperatures soaring from the Pennines to the coast. As we hit mid-August and the halfway point of summer holidays, Yorkshire is buzzing with life.
The heather's just starting to purple the moors, the days still stretch long into evening, and if there was ever a perfect moment to swap the screen for some fresh Yorkshire air, this is it.
Whether you're after family adventures, peaceful walks, or want to stay connected to what's happening across the ridings, Yorkshire Unscrolled is here. No algorithms, no endless scrolling, just the best of what our county has to offer.

Scorton Feast — A Medieval Festival Still Going Strong
Dating back to 1257, Scorton Feast is one of Yorkshire's oldest surviving village festivals. Held each year around the third Sunday in August, this four-day celebration is bursting with tradition, featuring flower shows, gymkhanas, cricket matches, classic cars, and pet competitions.
Running from Friday 15th to Monday 18th August this year, it's over 750 years of unbroken rural Yorkshire community spirit, and you can still be part of it.

"All you can see is dark hills of heather stretching toward the horizon, as if you were striding on top of the world; last night at sunset the horizontal light turned us both luminous pink…"
Sylvia Plath wrote those words in a letter to her mother from Heptonstall in September 1956, and right now, you can step into that very scene. The heather is blooming across Yorkshire's moorlands, painting the hills in purple waves. Head up to Norland Moor, Ilkley Moor, or the North York Moors this weekend and catch that magical horizontal light at sunset.

Final Brew
This week, from medieval feasts in Scorton to purple heather on the moors, Yorkshire's showing us what matters: real places, real people, real experiences.
In a world of endless notifications, there's something revolutionary about choosing the village green over the screen, the moor path over the scroll. Yorkshire has meant community for over a thousand years, long before algorithms decided what we should see.
